World Scout Jamboree
Link to WSJ
James Mitchell and Michael Buckley were part of the unit representing Cheshire at the World Scout Jamboree in Chelmsford this summer. Over 40,000 Scouts from all over the world attended and it was a fantastic event. Here's a photo of Michael with his Father and Uncle. Mike said "Dad was working on the support team and my Uncle Jon was visiting with his Troop for the day. It was great to see them both - it was a real challenge finding each other on such a big site with so many people”.

Cheshire Hike Success Click here for pictures of the Cheshire Hike
Well done to all the Holmes Chapel Scouts and Explorers that recently completed the 2008 Cheshire Hike. This year there was a record entry with over 300 teams taking part.
The weather was a little different from last year with the competitors waking up on Sunday morning to a truly winter scene with over two inches of snow.
It was another successful year for the Holmes Chapel Scout Group and Viking Explorers who brought home the Alderley District Intermediate and Senior awards. Congratulations to Sarah and Sam (Intermediate Winners) and Alistair and Innes (Senior Winners).
Everyone that took part in the hike deserves a big pat on the back. Well done to you all.

Service that Deserves Recognition
The In Place For The Outdoors
We are starting a new web page to recognise retail outlets that go the extra mile to make sure you get the right equipment for your needs. They should be passionate about their business, represent good value for money, understand their products and customers and above all be able to provide sound advice and help.

So if you have visited an outdoor or camping shop that you think deserves a mention please let us know by clicking here.
Our first recommendation is Alpenstock who are located in Stockport and are an independent retailer of outdoor clothing and equipment. Apart from their outstanding service and helpful approach they offer a 10% discount to Scouts and even more to Scout Groups. Click here for more details.

Cubs Success at District Cub Quiz
Another trophy has been add to our growing collection after our Cubs attended the District Cub Quiz night at Chelford. Against strong opposition and with one cub down we answered 6 rounds of questions and came joint first with 1st Chelford. This is the first time in the history of the competition that there has been a tie for first place.

Thanks go out to Oliver John, Lizzie Broxton, Lucy Wakefield, Monica Corrigan and Aaron Corrigan (our Beaver).

Scout Hut Prior to RefurbishmentGreat News For Our HQ Building
We are pleased to announce that we have received grant funding of £2,200 that will be used towards the Scout Hut Improvements Project. The project is primarily aimed at improving the acoustics of the building, which can be quite noisy during meetings.
A new suspended ceiling will be installed together with lighting and heating at a total cost of £4,600. The grant will go a long way towards meeting this cost. If you or your company could help by making a contribution towards the project please let us know by clicking here.

Raed more about St Lukes HospiceCubs Raise Funds For St Lukes Hospice
Well done to our Cubs who managed to raise £96.00 for St Lukes Hospice by organising, stocking and selling all sorts of goodies on their table at the St Lukes Table Top Sale. The number of people attending the event was extremely poor so this really is an amazing total.
The Cubs sold nearly new items, held a tombola, had Guess the Name of the Teddy and sold sweets from our tuck shop.
Diane Eely of the Hospice helped us by bringing a banner, providing pens and other goodies for sale and helped us at the table.
A big thank you goes out to all those that supported the event and especially to Mark Peart and family for all their donations, Francesca Cannon, Lucy and Sue Wakefield, Lizzie Broxton, William and Phil Jones, James and Sally Barratt, Connor and Kate Whelan, Sam Bennett, Rebecca Earp, Monica and Sally Corrigan.

Scout Walks for St Lukes Hospice

The walk takes place on the 28 June. If you could help by sponsoring Sarah or would like to take part please click here.

Thank you to all the Beavers,
Cubs, Scouts and Explorers that took part in this years remembrance day parade.
The parade started from the Health Centre and headed up by a brass band marched through the streets of Holmes Chapel and back to St Luke’s Church for the remembrance day service.

A Grand Day Out
The Cubs, Scouts and Explorers recently enjoyed a great day out at Camelot and Alton Towers theme parks. Everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the thrills and fortunately no spills!
Click here for pictures of this eventHelen our Scout leader ventured onto the corkscrew not once but twice and got 48,300 in Duel where you had to shoot aliens with laser beams! That score was better than most of the Explorers, including Andy but not his younger brother Chris who clearly spends too much time on an Xbox.
